A contemporary adventure
Claire de Fina Coutin, owner and producer of the Mas des Bories
As a agronomist, with a longstanding passion for olive oil, I fell in love at first sight with the Mas des Bories, magical place where the incomparable flavour of the oils produced there embodies so well the magnificent and fragrant nature of Provence.
After several years of professional life abroad, mostly in the food industry, I bought the olive grove and its mill in 2019, driven by a deep desire to reconnect with the land and my Provencal roots and by the will to develop the know-how and influence of olive oil from Provence.
For the Mas des Bories brand, I have chosen to take an artisanal approach that allows me a real creative space, freedom to produce and associate unique and rare flavors, and to explore ever further the rich aromatic palette of olives varieties from Provence.
Today, in strong connection with nature, I am happy to perpetuate this craftsmanship and to share my passion for high quality olive oils with all food lovers in search of subtle flavours.
The pleasure of being together
Around the mill, all generations together, we reconnect with the land and the rediscovery of agricultural and manual work.
Every year, from October onwards, the harvest is an intense period that lasts five weeks. Around a tightly knit professional team, family and friends come to lend a hand in the orchards.
With dogs running around the trees, children playing, friends chatting while sorting olives, convivial meals ... we find the simple pleasure of being together.
Inspiration
Mas des Bories is an extra virgin olive oil that owes its name to the bories, those small dry stone huts, full of charm with their simple rounded shapes, that are scattered throughout the olive grove and give it its identity.
For the farmers, the bories were also a way to clear the fields of stones while building shelters. We still use them to pile up our nets, rest or host art projects.
I wanted to incorporate the drawing of a borie in the brand logo, as an expression of the mineral nature that characterises Provence and to celebrate the ever more lively and creative craftsmanship that is found in the making our olive oils.
The design of our bottles, with their bright, sunny and sometimes washed out colours, are inspired by this happy alchemy of light and warmth that exists in Mas des Bories.
